SMS stands for Short Message Service and is also commonly referred to as a “text message”. With a SMS, you can send a message of up to 160 characters from one mobile device to another.
The character limit for SMS text is depends on the language you are sending in, SMS text messages are limited to either 70 or 160 characters in length.
Bulk SMS is sms message that is send to large number of recipients at once. SMS messages are purchased in a bulk and considerably less expensive than general SMS from your cellular telephone.
There is two type of bulk SMS:
- Promotional SMS
- Transactional SMS
SMS’s that are sent with the goal of promoting a brand/product/service. These more often than includes deals and marketing SMS’s which may or may not be solicited by the recipient.
SMS’s that are sent to your customers with the purpose of passing on information necessary for using your product or service. Below are two examples:
1. SMS sent for two factor authentication, one-time passwords, facilitate on-the-go transactions etc.
2. Alerts, notifications regarding product/service to an existing customer such as appointment reminders, security, service disruption or disaster tracking etc.
SMS Sender ID is a 6 character alpha-numeric name or number which appears on the mobile phone as the sender of a SMS or an alphanumeric number such as the name of your company.
STemplate Transactional SMS (based on Content White list) works with template based messaging. A Template is predefined message which has to be sent. Template pattern should be approved under the guidelines of TRAI and customer will get option to change the variable field (Example: #Name#, #Date#, #Amount#, #Address#).
